Charlie's been out hunting again.

(We rescued the bird before Charlie finished it off and it was okay)

Dhamaka says:

such a sweet bird. Have you let it go yet or are you keeping it until it recovers?

kostika says:

We put it out in the garden to recover and since it's now disappeared, I think it must have gotten over its shock.

kostika says:

Sad? Hell I'm proud of him. I jsut wish he wouldn't bring them in the house.

I'm proud of Charlie too, good cat! I have friends that wig every time Bandit takes care of a rodent, but hey, he's a dachshund doing what he was bred to do. Given his mental limitations otherwise, I'm just glad all of his instincts weren't damaged.

kostika says:

Does Bandit still have his nads?

Charlie has his which I think attributes alot to his hunting stuff alot. He catches and brings something in the house at least once a week. (from voles and mice to birds)

I do wonder why we bothered putting a bell on him though. It doesn't seem to help.

silar31 says:

Nope, although he was neutered a bit late. I think Bandit's hunting instincts are so very strong due to the damage to other parts of his brain - he is very like an autistic - very much in touch with his instincts, not so capable on the cognitive end, which is why we can teach him to NOT do things by using physical correction (we alpha roll him like a mother dog would) but it's very difficult to teach him obedience that isn't instinctive and natural to dogs.

Nadremoval hasn't hurt Elvis's hunting instincts at all. Of course it's quite difficult to get a comparison of course, but he kills at least two animals a week that we know of, almost certainly more that we don't.

kostika says:

That's good then Rich. Neutering makes males a bit apathetic in my experience.

I'm jsut waiting for him to bring me a rabbit. It's that time of year and he's already starting the season off right with baby pigeons.
