I thought long and hard about whether or not to go but in the end decided it was down to two things - did I trust the organisers (yes - they're spending a huge amount of money on the trip because they want me to come back and write the story) and how much do I trust humankind in general. Now all we need to do is see if I'm right.

Ohh, trusting humans, now there's something that makes solo cycling in Columbia itself seem a lot easier.
