total shocker

Hazz says:

Doesn't really need to be highlighted here though does it? It's all over the news. Save a hl spot for something that is actually worth it, not a blurred pic of TV news.

Twiglet says:

The others moon walked in his honour this morning and I sang my ear splitting version of *I'll be there...*.

*You and I must make a pact, we must bring salvation back
Where there is love, I'll be there...*

nige says:

Hahah, someone actually de-highlighted this? Doesn't oft happen 'round these here parts...

taniwha says:

Oh wow, well I heard the news first on Moblog so thanks HL-er.

I suspect that this may be one of those moments of 'where were you when you heard ...' global unity akin to P. Diana's death or 9/11.

26th Jun 2009, 10:30

that's the second reference I've spotted to Diana's death this morning.

540air says:

I'm happy to hold my hands up as the person who highlighted this. Perhaps it didn't need highlighting here, but the point of highlighting something is to bring it to people's attention and as taniwha has said, this was how he first heard the news, which means it has served its purpose. Also, perhaps it's a little harsh to say that the death of one of the world's biggest pop stars isn't worthy of a mention?

By the way, I'd appreciate it if whoever did de-highlighted it explained their reason for doing so, in the same way as I've explained mine. I thought only the person who gave it was supposed to take it away if required?

How rude...

Hazz says:

"the point of highlighting something is to bring it to people's attention". I thought the point of it was to bring "an outstanding photo" to people's attention.

The highlight system here is very strange. It's not even decided by the community, Just by some editors. Editors who mostly highlight their friends work. There has been a lot of guff that has been highlighted in the past and I really wonder why.

The main reason why I don't bother to post here any more is because of this big fail. I have some great photos on my page which have rarely been taken notice of. It sucks when you see this kinda "photo" highlighted when there is a lot of great work on this site which largely goes unnoticed most days.

27th Jun 2009, 12:56

I don't think this argument is worth the effort, frankly.

ookiine says:

Hazz is absolutely 100% correct!

I see a lot of good photos being skipped over.

I'd love to become one of those people that is allowed to highlight pictures. I'm just your average guy...

Maybe Alfie & Mat should remove the highlighting feature as it is now and put in some kind of community based voting system where after a certain # of votes the picture becomes highlighted?

Craft says:

Whilst we're on the subject, I don't have a problem with what gets highlighted but it does really irritate me when moblogs with privacy settings on them get high lights that a lot of us can't enjoy. I think we should all be able to enjoy the highlights and the mobloggers who apply privacy settings, for instance when only those on their friends lists can see their work, should not be highlighted.

Just saying....

nige says:

Just got to this. Shame it didn't continue because I think it's a good thread, but most people are sick of the highlights discussion so that's probably why it didn't get much play.

ookiine says:

Isn't it?

24th Aug 2009, 00:55

nige says:

Not sure what you mean.

24th Aug 2009, 00:59

ookiine says:

How good threads die. People just get sick of the discussion and the issue doesn't get resolved.
